When it comes to family beach spots, nothing tops Siesta Public Beach in Sarasota – gradual slopes, shallow waters, lifeguards, a playground, gentle waves, fine white sand and translucent waters. What is the difference between Sara Sea, Tropical Shores and
Tropical Sun?

SaraSea is considered to be the crown jewel of the three resorts, specifically because it caters to couples and includes many upscale amenities. It is in close proximity to Tropical Shores and Tropical Sun, but unlike its sister properties, is designed to accommodate couples versus families. Upgraded appliances, designer décor and romantic touches set this property apart, and therefore, it commands slightly higher rates. Guests of SaraSea have full use of the sparkling swimming pools of Tropical Shores and Tropical Sun. Tropical Shores and Tropical Sun are located right next to each other and operate out of one office. Both properties are very nice and share the same beautiful beach access. Tropical Shores is the most preferred location of the two; it’s a AAA 3 diamond property, and has had an over two million dollar renovation offering very modern accommodations. Tropical Sun is also a GREAT property located right next to Tropical Shores and was chosen in the summer of 2003 as the #1 Family Resort by the Discovery Travel Channel. It is also rated one of the highest properties on the island by Superior Small Lodging. We think you would find both properties very nice, but Tropical Shores is slightly more expensive offering a few more upgrades and a slightly better location.

What is a Florida red tide?
A red tide is a higher-than-normal concentration of a microscopic alga (plant-like organisms). In Florida, the species that causes most red tides is Karenia brevis. This organism produces a toxin that can affect the central nervous system of fish. At high concentrations (called a bloom), the organisms may discolor the water. However, red tides are not always red. They can appear greenish, brownish, and even purple in color. The water can even remain its normal color during a bloom. Local Red Tide reports can be viewed at www.floridamarine.org.

Registration and Security Information
Upon registration a major credit card, and photo ID are required. All vehicles are required to display a parking pass. The front desk is staffed 24 hours a day seven days a week. Key card locks and in-room safes are individually coded for optimal safety and privacy.

Is it safe to swim during a red tide?
Red tide can cause some people to suffer from skin irritation and burning eyes. Use common sense. If you are particularly susceptible to irritation from plant products, avoid red tide water. If you experience irritation, get out of the water and thoroughly wash. Do not swim among dead fish because they can be associated with harmful bacteria.

Do we need a car if we are staying at the Resort?
No, not necessarily. There are several shops and restaurants within walking distance, to name a few: Captain Curts, Granny’s Café, Javiers, Miguels and City Pizza. You will also find a 7-11, and a few places to enjoy nightlife within walking distance.

Siesta Village, where there are many more shops and restaurants, is approximately 2 miles north of us. On the mainland of Sarasota, you will find an abundance of restaurants, local and chain types, shopping centers, movie theaters and nightlife. You could expect to drive between 5-15 minutes to reach any of these places in Sarasota.
